Food Service Applications
Stainless steel alloys have been used in food processing and preparation / service environments for the last 50 to 60 years. By its nature, stainless steel is an extremely hard and durable material providing excellent protection against impact, abrasion, and organic chemical exposure. This greatly reduces the potential for bacterial and microbial growth that can occur in the smallest of micro-cracks and pits. Stainless steel is also much easier to keep clean, requiring much lower concentrations of disinfectants and reduced application times compared to other materials.
The addition of chromium to the 304 stainless alloy provided even more protection, creating a self-healing chromium oxide film on the exterior surface. Any micro-cracks or pits that may occur through daily use or chemical and abrasive cleaning are subsequently protected by the film as it regenerates.
The 316 stainless alloy used in NorComp’s VULCON™ STEEL connectors provide all the benefits described above, but with its higher nickel content and the addition of molybdenum, this alloy provides additional protection against corrosion from chloride-based compounds (primarily chlorines and salts).
In sensitive food service environments where controlling bacterial and microbial growth is critical - VULCON™ STEEL offers an extremely effective solution, providing superior performance levels at very competitive costs.
